LOVELL – Friends of the Charlotte Hobbs Memorial Library are excited to set up an online chat with Lois Lowry on Thursday, January 27 at 7 p.m. ET. Join us as famed Lowry, a resident of Maine with deep connections to Bridgton and Lovell, talks about his life and writings, answers questions, reads excerpts from his work, and gives us a preview of his new book at to appear.
The winner of several awards, including the Newbery medals for “Number the Stars” in 1990 and again for “The Giver” in 1994, Lowry is widely regarded as one of America’s most important writers for children and young adults. She is the author of over 40 books for children and young adults ranging from historical fiction to dystopian fantasy, the animated series Anastasia Krupnik and the witty âWilloughbysâ. to a haunting fictional memory of her sister’s death.
Lowry’s books invite us to view the world with depth, seriousness, and humor. She is best known for writing brilliantly on difficult subjects; “Number the Stars” is widely regarded as one of the best children’s novels ever written on the Holocaust, and Lowry’s most popular book “The Giver” has sold over 12 million copies and has been adapted into a play, musical, opera and film.
