Guwahati: Well-known writer from Assam Anuradha Sarma Pujari and Mwdai Gahai are among the 20 writers who will receive the 2021 Sahitya Akademi Prize.
Pujari was selected for honor for her novel, âIyat Ekhon Aaronya Asilâ, in Assamese, while Gahai was chosen for her collection of poetry, âKhoro Sayao Arw Himalayâ, in Bodo language.
The Akademi announced its annual awards in 20 languages ââon Thursday. Seven collections of poetry, short stories, reviews, two novels, two plays, a biography, an autobiography and an epic won the Akademi Prize. Prizes in the Gujarati, Maithili, Manipuri and Urdu languages ââcategory will be announced at a later date.
The Akademi also announced its annual Yuva Puraskar for 2021 in 22 languages.
Six short stories, nine of poetry, five of novels, and one each for essay and play won the 2021 Youth Award. Abhijit Bora in Assamese and Gautom Daimary in Bodo d’Assam were shortlisted for the award. .
Bora won the award for her short story book, “Deuka Kobai Jay”, and Daimary for poetry, “Jiu Gwnang Soho”.
Akademi’s Bal Sahitya Puraskar for 2021 went to Mrinal Chandra Kalita and Ratneswar Narzary of Assam. Kalita stood out for her novel âBakul Phular Dareâ, in the Assamese language, while Narzary for his work âDikhura Solobathaâ (folk tales) in the Bodo language.
At a special function later, Sahitya Akademi recipients will each receive engraved copper plaques, shawls and checks for Rs 1 lakh. Those who won the Yuva Puraskar and Bal Puraskar will receive engraved copper plaques and checks for Rs 50,000.
Last year, Apurba Kumar Saikia and the late Dharanidhar Owari received the Sahitya Akademi Award. While Saikia was awarded for his short stories, “Bengsata”, in Assamese, Owari was awarded for his work, “Gwthenay Lamayao Gwdan Agan”, in Bodo language.
