Beyond Books: Check out these events at your local library from September 28 through October. 5

BRCL requires that all clients, regardless of their immunization status, wear masks during their visit. If you do not have your mask, one can be provided.

• Take-out kits (all ages): monthly kits available at the loan counter on a first come, first served basis. The kits are made for everyone and will not adhere to age groups like previous months.


• AZ Kit Club (3-5 years): Participants receive weekly bags that feature a letter of the alphabet and Talk is Teaching activities. Register by emailing Sarah at [email protected].

• Murder Mystery Kit (ages 8 and up): Each kit will include witness statements, clues, suspicious files and more. Can you solve the mystery? This kit will be available on the third Monday of each month on a first come, first served basis.

• Walk Big Rapids (all ages): 10 am to 11 am Tuesdays, Aug 10 – Oct 10 26. Meet at the library on Tuesday morning to walk the various trails around Big Rapids. Take back your steps to help the library reach our community goals.

• Knot Just Knitting (all ages): 6:30 pm to 8 pm on the first and third Thursday of each month. Share your favorite hobby, be it knitting, cross stitching or scrapbooking. Contact: Kayla at [email protected].

• Caregiver Connection (adults): 10 p.m. to 10:45 p.m. on Fridays from Sept. 10 to Dec. 17. Weekly thematic meetings advise on caregiving. Bring the children to play for free during the discussion.

Story time with Mr. Howard (0-5 years): 10 am Mondays and Wednesdays, Sept. 8-Dec. 22, in the community room of the library.

• Storytelling on Saturdays (all ages): 10 am to 10:45 am on the second Saturday of each month, starting September 11, in the library community room.

• Teen Tuesdays (13-18 years old): 4 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month, starting September 14. The September project is DIY Neon Lights. Register at the library or by emailing Sarah at [email protected].

• Gathering of architects (all ages): 1 pm to 2:30 pm on the third Saturday of each month, starting September 18. Builders can work alone or take a guided activity. Email [email protected] with any questions.

• Myths and mysteries (9-12 years old): 4-5 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month, Sept. 21-Nov. 16. Register at the library or by emailing [email protected].

• Cut and paste (6-8 years old): 4 pm to 5 pm on the fourth Tuesday of each month, starting September 28. Each month, a different craft and a snack will be offered. Register at the library or by emailing [email protected].

Reed town areaNeighborhood library

• Second Saturday: the library will be open on the second Saturday of each month. Visit facebook.com/reedcitylibrary for events.

• Story time: 11:30 am Wednesday. Join Ms. Cyndi for fun stories and activities.

• Tuesday Adventure film series: Tuesdays at 6 pm at the community hall. The shows are free and open to the public. Visit facebook.com/reedcitylibrary for movie listings.

• Scrabble: 1 pm to 3 pm on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month.

• Tiny Art Show (ages 9-12): Create your own little masterpiece that will be on display October 25-29 to celebrate Bob Ross’s birthday. The take-out kits will be available on September 27. They must be returned by October 20.

Morton Township Library

• Craft Wednesday for Kids: Kits are available for curbside pickup from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesdays. Call 231-972-8315 and the staff will bring you the packages.

• Take-Out STEAM Kits: Kits incorporate high-interest books with interactive resources for family fun and learning, and are available to view with your library card!

Walton ericksonPublic library

Fall hours: 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, 12:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays, 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursdays and 9 a.m. to noon on Fridays. Closed Saturday and Sunday.

Evert District Public Library

• Preschool story time: 9:30 am on Wednesdays. Come in and enjoy the stories with Miss Marty.

LeRoy Community Library

• Bags occupied: available the first of each month. Free monthly steam-focused activities for Kindergarten to Grade 6. For more information, email [email protected] or call 231-768-4493.

Tamarack District Library

• Holocaust survivor Irene Butter will share her story and talk about her book “Shores Beyond Shores: From Holocaust to Hope” at 3 pm Saturday October 2 at the Tamarack District Library. This is a free event open to the public. For questions or to reserve a spot, please call 989-352-6274.
