Chris Lowell Joins My Best Friend’s Exorcism Adaptation Of Grady Hendrix’s Novel

The Hollywood Reporter reports that Chris Lowell (Promising young woman, GLOW, In the air) was added to the cast of the feature film adaptation of The exorcism of my best friend, inspired by the cult novel by Grady Hendrix. Lowell will join Elsie Fisher (Eigth year), who is headlining an ensemble cast that includes Amiah Miller (War for the Planet of the Apes), Cathy Ang (Above the moon) and Rachel Ogechi Kanu.

Lowell will play a muscular meathead who, along with his brother, performs a “Faith and Fitness” at the teenage parish school. He sees that Gretchen is possessed and needs an exorcism.

Described as Beaches meets Heather meets The Exorcist, The exorcism of my best friend takes place in 1988 and follows the relationship of two best friends, Abby and Gretchen. After an evening of skinny soaking gone awry, Gretchen begins to act unnaturally. As Abby slowly comes to believe that her friend has gone demonic, the two girls soon face a difficult question: Is their friendship strong enough to beat the devil?

Longtime director Damon Thomas (Terrible penny, Kill Eve) will make his directorial debut after 18 years of episodic TV and TV production. Based on the horror novel of the same name by author Grady Hendrix, the film will be produced by Happy day of the dead writer and director Christopher Landon. The feature is created by Endeavor Content with Amazon Studios.

First published in 2016 by Quirk Books, Hendrix’s horror novel was named one of Paste Magazine’s 50 Best Horror Novels of All Time. Hendrix will serve as a creative consultant on the film, along with Jenna Lamia (Clumsy, 90210) while writing the screenplay. Along with Gotham’s Christopher Landon and Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Quirk Books will also be producing the film adaptation. It will be the first time that the book publisher, known for the titles Miss Peregrine’s house for special children and Pride and prejudice and zombies, will produce a film. Endeavor Content (Kill Eve, Colette) will co-finance and manage global sales.
