Every Black Book location in Skyrim

Seven Black Books are scattered across Solestheim in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Each Black Book grants the Dragonborn a new choice of power.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has seven black books scattered across the island of Solestheim, and each grants the Dragonborn a new power. Black Books were originally included alongside Dragonborn DLC, which also included a new antagonist and the Isle of Solestheim. Whenever the Dragonborn finds a Black Book, it is transported to the realm of the Apocrypha, where Prince Daedra Hermaeus More reigns.

According to the distance traveled by the players in their adventure through Skyrim, Black Books will either take a long time to find or are extremely easy to access. Like many objects hidden in Skyrim, gamers have likely encountered some of the black books without realizing it, as each of them is in a quick travel spot. Before the Black Books can be found, however, players will need to start the Dragon Child DLC in Skyrim.

Each of the black books of Skyrim gives the Dragonborn a choice of power enhancement or perks. For example, the Black Book: Epistolary Acumen allows the Dragonborn to choose one of three abilities: Dragonborn Force, Dragonborn Flame, or Dragonborn Frost. Players can use these powers to enhance the shouts of Ultimate Strength, Breath of Fire, and Breath of Frost. Specifically, the Relentless Force Scream deals more damage, Fire Breath spawns a Fire Wyrm when it kills an enemy, and Frost Breath traps enemies in ice. In addition, for those who wish to experience The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Without Dragonborn’s scream mods, Black Books are the best collectibles to find.

Where to find every black book in Skyrim

Most of the black books of Skyrim can be found in some of the burial mounds, and several even be encountered naturally across the Dragonborn DLC main quest. If players end up wanting to change their Black Book power later, they just have to reopen that particular Black Book to return to the realm of Apocrypha.

These are the locations of each black book in Skyrim:

  • Epistolary insight: Found at Nchardak as part of the main Dragonborn DLC quest.
  • Filament And Watermark: Found at Kolbjorn Barrow. Players should speak to Ralis Sedarys outside the tumulus to start investing in his excavation efforts. After the fourth investment, the Black Book can be found inside the wheelbarrow.
  • The hidden twilight: Found in Neloth’s private room in Tel Mithryn, The Hidden Twilight is one of the best black books in Skyrim. Players must complete the “Reluctant steward“quest to access the room.
  • The yellowish regent: Found at White Ridge Barrow. Players can continue along the wheelbarrow passage to find Dukaan, a dragon priest. Once they’ve defeated him, the Black Book is in front of the Word Wall.
  • Winds of change: Found at Bloodskal Barrow. Players must venture into Bloodskal Barrow to find the Bloodskal Blade. They must use the blade to unlock the next room, defeat the Dragon Priest, and take the right path on the west side of the room to find this black book.
  • Unpublished legends: Found at Benkongerike. Players must match the pillars to the symbols to unlock the door, and behind the wall of words is a path leading to Untold Legends.
  • Daydreams: Found in the temple of Miraak as part of the Dragonborn DLC quest in Skyrim
