Bad girls is one of the greatest teenage comedies of the 21st century, which owes much to the old Saturday Night Live the cast members also featured in the film. Bad girls has held the reins tight on American cultural consciousness since its inception, even prompting teens to wear pink to school on Wednesdays and celebrate October 3 as “Mean Girls Day.” The film’s commentary on high school pettiness, girl-to-girl backstabbing, and the importance of kindness at this crucial stage in life still holds up and has an impact on those who watch it today.

Without surprise, SNL was an instrumental aspect of Bad girls‘, notably produced by showrunner Lorne Michaels, written by Tina Fey, and starring several former cast members. Tina Fey

Fey’s character Mrs Norbury serves as the film’s moral conscience, noticing all the horrible things that are going on with the students and confronting Cady about her transformation from a nice, shy homeschooled girl to a nasty, popular girl and vindictive. Cady even accidentally spreads a rumor that Ms Norbury is selling drugs after pushing Cady to join mathletes and do better in school, which leads to an investigation. At the end of Bad girls, Lindsay Lohan’s Cady and Tina Fey’s Mrs. Norbury have made amends, and she appears to be pursuing a relationship with Principal Duvall.

After a stint in Chicago’s improv comedy group Second City, Tina Fey joined Saturday Night Live as a writer in 1997. In 1999 Tina Fey became SNLfirst female lead writer, after which she started acting in skits and co-hosting Weekend update with Jimmy Fallon the following year. Fallon and Fey co-hosted Weekend updatee for the next four years until he left the show and brought in Amy Poehler to replace her. While Fey’s performances on Weekend update and the sketches were well received by critics and the public, she left after the 2005-2006 season to develop her own comedy, the seven series 30 Rock. Fey went back to SNL to host several times after her departure, including several guest appearances in 2008 to parody vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin.

Amy poehler

While she is only seven years older than Rachel McAdams, Saturday Night Live veteran Amy Poehler plays the mother of Regina George. Tina Fey had actually written the role specifically for Poehler, but was concerned the director would cast her out due to her youth at the time. While playing only a small role, Poehler Bad girls role took on an iconic ability all its own. Her 2000s tracksuit, her chihuahua in her arms, her over-enthusiastic involvement in her daughter’s sex life and her support for the Christmas performance have become a staple of Halloween costumes and memorable cool mom quotes.

Amy Poehler, who almost appeared in Office, was a main actor on SNL from 2001 to 2008 at the same time as Tina Fey. SNL tend to have iconic duets from different eras that collaborate on iconic skits and have an organic flow, including Dan Akyroyd & Steve Martin, Will Ferrell & Cheri Oteri, Kristen Wiig & Maya Rudolph and Amy Poehler & Tina Fey. Poehler and Fey’s chemistry was most evident when they co-hosted Weekend update in 2004 and their recurring portrayals of Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin, respectively, in the 2008 presidential election. Since their time together the SNL and Bad girls, Poehler and Fey also starred in baby mom, Sisters, and Wine country.

Tim meadows

Saturday Night Live veteran and Halloween halloween star Tim Meadows plays second main adult, Principal Duvall, in Bad girls. While he is quite oblivious to actual student activities and how to deal with teenage tickling, Meadows is the adult who most often has to step in and deal with the consequences of student antics. Having already worked together on Saturday Night Live, Tina Fey actually wrote the role of Principal Duvall with Meadows in mind.

Tim Meadows is known to be one of the oldest actors on Saturday Night Live, having been part of the series for 10 seasons. Meadows was featured on SNL as an actor and writer from 1991 to 2000, straddling for a few seasons with Tina Fey alongside other movie stars such as Mike Myers from Wayne’s world, who celebrated his 25th birthday in 2017. As one of the few black cast members at the time, Meadows routinely parodies black celebrities and actors such as OJ Simpson, Oprah Winfrey, Michael Jackson and Tiger Woods. One of its only recurring SNL the original characters were Leon Phelps, “The Ladies Man,” who was an excited talk show host. Since his time on SNL, Meadows has been featured in several films written or starring his former cast members, including several films starring Adam Sandler, Will Ferrell, David Spade and Tina Fey.

Ana Gasteyer

While not specifically written for a role like Poehler and Meadows, the former SNL Actor Ana Gasteyer plays Cady’s mother, Betsy Heron. Gasteyer was an actor on SNL from 1996 to 2002, appearing with all other alumni SNL actors presented in Bad girls. Gasteyer starred in one of the most famous SNL skits, “Schweddy Balls,” as a radio co-host with Molly Shannon, providing an ironic episode on Alec Baldwin’s character Christmas desserts. Gasteyer also regularly parodied Martha Stewart and Celine Dion. following Saturday Night Live and Bad girls, Gasteyer has teamed up with Fey and Poehler again in the 2019 Netflix comedy, Wine country.
