HBO series ‘Misfit City’ based on blockbuster graphic novels in the works

If HBO was looking to hang on Strange things, maybe they just found it. According to Deadline, HBO has put together a TV adaptation of the best-selling graphic novel series Unsuitable city, a thrilling adventure story about a party of five teenagers, a devastated old town, and a centuries-old pirate map. Posted in 2017 by BOOM! Studios, the gripping series evokes the same nostalgia that drove people crazy when Netflix Strange things did it in 2016 – and with a story this convincingly, snatching the rights to a serial adaptation could be a major victory for HBO:

Choked by its remote hometown and frustrated by its 1980s cult movie fame (the dark ones… Have you seen him? It’s a real classic, you know.), Wilder is pretty sure she’s seen all that Cannon Cove has to offer. She’s desperate to get away from home as soon as she can and move on to bigger, better, and less boring things … even if that may mean leaving her best friends behind. But when Wilder discovers a centuries-old pirate map, she might find that the REAL adventure has been in their little town from the start… and they need each other to get to the bottom of it!

Hannah Hafey and Kaitlin Smith, the writers of HBO Popular are set up to serve as the show’s creators and executive producers. However, fans of the comic book series will be delighted to know creators Kirsten “Kiwi” Smith – who also made a lot work in the cinema between writing on Legally blonde, 10 things I hate about you is the man, the rabbit of the house and the Emmy-winning series Trinkets – and his co-creator, Kurt Lustgarten, will also be producing on the HBO series. In addition, Boom! Stephen Christy, Ross Richie and Mark Ambrose of the studios will also be executive producers, with Mette Norkjaer co-executive producer.

At this time, no further details on the cast or the scheduled premiere date of the show have been given.
