Hoosier Authors Book Club continues

review review

The Hoosier Authors Book Club continues its seventh year with virtual meetings. The General Lew Wallace Study & Museum Book Club will discuss Chris White’s book “The Life List of Adrian Mandrick” at 7 p.m. on May 19 via a Zoom meeting. Books are currently available at checkout at the Carriage House.

White’s novel was the winner of the 2020 Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana Author Award. White is an English professor and director of the film studies program at DePauw University. His plays have been performed on many stages in the United States and around the world.

The book centers on Adrian Mandrick, a successful doctor and family man. An avid birder, Adrian has the third longest list of species spotted in North America. When his ex-mother reconnects with him, Adrian sinks into addiction and continues to observe the rare ivory-billed woodpecker, believed to be extinct.

Library Journal gave the book a star-studded review, writing, “This engaging and unusual novel successfully combines the best elements of a psychological portrait, a travel adventure, and a suspenseful mystery.”

Copies of the book are courtesy of the Indiana Humanities Novel Conversations program. All discussions are free and open to the public.
