ICv2: March 2022 NPD BookScan

For the third consecutive month, the manga sweeps the Book Channel’s Top 20 Adult Graphic Novels rankings, based on NPD BookScan data for March 2022 (2/27/22-4/2/22) provided to ICv2 . The scan included five volumes of Chainsaw Man, five of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, and three of Jujutsu Kaisen. It’s interesting to see three series consistently dominate the top 20 while the 800-pound former manga gorilla, My hero academia, place only two volumes. The title still has some legs, however, as one of those two volumes, Volume 30, was released in early March, and it tops the charts.

two volumes of Berserk are in the top 20, Volume 1 and Vol. 10, the first time the title appears in the Top 20 this year. The late Kentaro Miura’s long-running manga is one of Dark Horse Comics’ best sellers (see “Dark Horse’s best property in the last three years was a manga”).

The first volume of Spy x Family completes the Viz portion of the chart (17 out of 20 stocks). This is the third month that the first volume made the chart; the anime is set to debut on Crunchyroll on April 9 (see “AnimeNYC: ‘Spy x Family’ Anime Comes to Crunchroll”).

Kaiju No. 8, a release in December, charted in December and February and it’s back in March. The second volume was released on April 5, so we’ll see how it goes. As usual, there is a volume of Yen Press’s Hanako-kun in the toilet on the chart but it’s not volume 1 this time, it’s volume 0, a March release.
