Marvel characters have been the basis of many game titles over the years, both in collectives and groups such as the Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy, and with specific characters such as Spider-Man. Marvel claims more than 8,000 characters in its universe.

This fall, Disney and Marvel released two more ensemble films that could also serve as the basis for new gaming experiences. One, Shang-Chi and the legend of the ten rings, has been a resounding success both financially and critically since its Labor Day weekend debut. It marks the start of another cycle in the complex and hugely popular Marvel Cinematic Universe of Avengers, et al, and was the highest-grossing domestic release of the year, with a cumulative gross box office of $ 221 million, according to BoxOfficeMojo.

The other film, Eternals, is weakly connected to the existing MCU. It debuts nationally on November 5, although it has been critically criticized in many early reviews. The company is also launching a series of episodic MCU series slated for on the Disney Plus streaming service in the coming months, including Hawkeye, Ms. Marvel and She-Hulk.

Hennig’s 30-year career includes a decade-long stint at Sony games studio Naughty Dog as the creative director of five hit titles Unexplored series, after eight years at Crystal Dynamics, working on three Soul Reaver securities. The project is the first for Skydance’s AAA games studio, led by Hennig and fellow Electronic Arts veteran Julian Beak, who is executive vice president and general manager.
