Philadelphia is one of Time’s “100 most beautiful places in the world”

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) – Time Magazine has published its annual list of the “100 Greatest Places in the World”.

And you won’t have to travel far for any of them.

Philadelphia was selected for its artistic growth, including the recently transformed and expanded Museum of Art.

Time also spoke about our city’s increasingly dynamic food scene.

Time writes:

A city known for its historic past, Philadelphia is writing a new chapter this year. The elegant Greek Revival facade of the Philadelphia Museum of Art has largely remained the same since it opened in 1928, but the interior now offers visitors a new perspective with a Frank Gehry-led redesign unveiled in May. The space now includes access to a previously prohibited arched walkway and a magnificent floating staircase to rival the iconic steps up front, made famous by Rocky. It also added 20,000 square feet of gallery space to include exhibitions such as “NewGrit: Art & PhillyNow,” showcasing the work of 25 contemporary artists linked to the city. The local food scene is more vibrant than ever, with Chef Omar Tate funding the upcoming Honeysuckle Community Center in West Philly, stemming from his award-winning dinner series of the same name that centers black culture and history. And Ange Branca, after closing her award-winning Malaysian restaurant Saté Kampar last spring, is back with Kampar Kitchen, offering take-out from a rotating roster of chefs. -Regan Stephens

The list also highlights travel destinations around the world like the city of Arouca, Portugal, which is home to the longest pedestrian suspension bridge in the world.

Antarctica, which is expected to experience a rare total solar eclipse in December, is also on the list.

Other US cities include Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, New Orleans, New York, and Orlando.

According to Time, the list of “the greatest places in the world” is a “tribute to the people and companies at the forefront of these industries who, under extraordinary circumstances, have found ways to adapt, to build and to innovate. . It highlights ingenuity, creativity, revitalization and reopening in destinations around the world. “

Time solicited venue nominations from its international network of correspondents and contributors to compile the list.

The list will be published in the new double issue of Time, which goes on sale this Friday.
