Marguerite Bennett promises to say as much or as little as a crowd at the University of Mary Washington wants to hear tomorrow night.

Los Angeles-based comic book writer Marguerite Bennett ’10 – widely published in DC, Marvel and more – is known for her portrayal of female relationships. She will deliver the Women’s History Month keynote address at UMW tomorrow night.

The 2010 grad — UMW’s Women’s History Month keynote speaker — is full of stories of woman power of all shapes and sizes, in her comic book career and in her personal life.

“I love women, in their infinite shapes, their infinite power,” said Bennett, whose New York Times-Best-selling, GLAAD-nominated work has appeared in DC, Marvel, Aftershock, Dynamite, Archie and more. She will recount her colorful — but sometimes stormy — journey Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Chandler Ballroom at the University Center.

Bennett ka-pow’ed and sha-bam’ed her way through a glass ceiling in her writing career, crashing into the notoriously male-dominated comic book industry while still a in doctoral school. Now, with a deserved reputation for her uniquely authentic portrayal of LGBTQ+ characters, she encourages others to harness their own victories.

“If you write stories that tell people that gay people can live without shame, they might grow up believing it,” she said.

Well known for her work on
Well known for her work on DC Comics’ “Bombshells,” Bennett long ago learned the secret of the synergy between text and art. “That old adage of only speaking when what you have to say is more beautiful than silence applies to throwing your words at a work of art,” she said. ‘Everything you add should elevate [the artist’s] to work.’

Bennett was already seeking justice as a student at Mary Washington, where she enrolled in her strong writing program, and was influenced by English teachers Gary Richards, Colin Rafferty and Eric Lorentzen.

“Why wasn’t I excited?” she says. “Frankly, it was pretty much the same thing that appeals to me more than a decade later – the rights and representation of women, queer people, people of color and the social and institutional injustices they face. are confronted.”

She was studying an MFA program at the prestigious Sarah Lawrence College when her teacher and mentor, famed comic book writer Scott Snyder, offered her the chance of a lifetime by enlisting her help in 2013. Annual Batman #2.

And the rest is comic book history.

best known for Bombs, batmanand his own original series Animosity and InSEXts, Bennett has written over a thousand unique stories and has sold over 10 million copies, though she has long since ceased to count. Yet parts of her professional journey have mirrored the words she writes on the page — words she describes as messy, angry, and dark.

In a corporate world fueled by men – many of whom, to be fair, she claims to be dear friends – she has faced sexist acts she deems “shameful”, intended to undermine her career. Still, she prevailed, saying her greatest achievement was personal – climbing on the other side of an abusive relationship. “It was like coming back from the dead,” she said. “A miracle.”

Along the way, her work has become more insistent and determined, with a sharpness, grit and grime that she is proud of. She writes about murder and mayhem, the horrible and the hideous, but her comic book prose is also steeped in beauty, power and love.

Sure, writer’s block creeps in from time to time. For that, Bennett heads to the garden to clear his head and create, bleeding his words with the art on the page. It’s a magical blend, one that she believes we can all achieve in our own lives.

“You can do it,” Bennett said. “The antiquated bastions and ivory towers are rotten, and none of them are as strong as they claim. You can kick walls.

Mary Ann Jensen, fourteen-year-old author of the Sundance Springs series, was in our studio today to catch up with us on her latest writing accomplishments. Since she visited us last March, she has released two new books!

MASH POTATOES is book two in the series, and and Pause is the third book in his seven-part series. MASH POTATOES is the story of Victoria. She and the Sundance Squad have yet another slumber party and play MASH to predict their future. When they wake up, they are adults in an alternate world, living their MASH’s!

Pause is the story of Nicolle Parker. She likes High School Musical, and watch this movie with the Sundance Squad. The next day, they wake up as High School Musical characters in the movie!

Mary Ann tells us that an important message she’d like to share with Pause is anxiety, and how it’s not normalized despite so many people experiencing it, and especially during the pandemic. This book shows how you don’t have to struggle alone; your friends can help you!

Honorable Mentions – Various Legendary Novels

Cover featuring Boba Fett for the Star Wars Hard Merchandise Legends novel

The chronology of the legends of star wars is full of ridiculousness and badassery, and Boba Fett is no stranger to either in the star wars franchise. While none of this is canon and related to Boba fans, The Boba Fett Book or the original trilogy, there are plenty of stories worth reading for fans to get another look at the bounty hunter.

Novels like Lines by Karen Traviss (released as part of the Legacy of the Force series), hard goods by KW Jeter, Slave ship by KW Jeter, and Tales from Jabba’s Palace by various authors all provide solid Boba Fett content. Comics may be better for some post-Boba Fett book The badassery of legends, however.

Doctor Aphra: An Original Audiobook by Sarah Kuhn (2020)

It’s not so much a book to read; instead, it’s a must-listen to, with a full voice cast playing the roles throughout. Doctor Aphra: an original audiobook, an appropriate story to delve into the post-Book by Boba Fett.

As in its titular comics, this story of Doctor Aphra has a role for none other than Black Krrsantan, known to Aphra as Big K. With Krrsantan playing a part in Boba Fett’s BookThe first season of and likely future seasons, this novel and accompanying comics are good to get to know better. Given her involvement in the Doctor Aphra stories, this is also another look at crime in the galaxy, which is explored in the series. Boba himself also makes a brief appearance in the book.

Poe Dameron: Free Fall by Alex Segura (2020)

One of the major plot points in Boba Fett’s Book is the spice trade that makes its way through Tatooine through the Pykes. One of many star wars stories that mention and explore spices are Poe Dameron: Freefall.

Star Wars: Last Shot: A Han and Lando Novel by Daniel José Older (2018)

Released alongside Solo: A Star Wars Story, Last shot is another great story shared with one of Star Wars’ best duos, Han Solo and Lando Calrissian, two years before the events of The Mandalorian and Boba Fett’s Book.

For those who watched the series and were curious about other criminal activity in the Galaxy or wondered what the two main culprits of getting Boba eaten by the Sarlacc were doing at the time of the show, this novel delivers. It contains flashbacks to the Imperial era while showing how two other former criminals adjust to life in the New Republic, much like Boba.

Claudia Gray’s Bloodline (2016)

Boba Fett’s Book is defined, as The Mandalorianat a time in galactic history when the New Republic is still properly forming, rising from the ashes of the Empire. Lines gives incredible insight into how this happens.

Boba Fett’s series shows that the influence of the New Republic has even reached a planet like Tatooine, and Lines will help fans understand, from Leia Organa’s perspective, how the government has managed to expand its influence as a governing body. It also says a lot about the post-Return of the Jedi story, which might interest audiences after getting a glimpse of what his brother is up to during this time.

Boba Fett isn’t just part of a story this time around; it appears in several. “Wait For It”, “Standard Imperial Procedure”, “The Witness”, “Beyond The Clouds”, and “The Man Who Built Cloud City” all have guest appearances from the bounty hunter. He is also mentioned in many other stories. It’s a heavy Boba novel and a must-read for all fans of the bounty hunter.

Chuck Wendig’s Aftermath Trilogy (2015-2017)

the Consequences trilogy helped launch the extended canon into the new era of star wars under Disney, being the first novels to link the originals to the new movies. They also happen to launch an already iconic Mandalorian/Boba Fett Book personage.

In these novels, readers meet Cobb Vanth. That in itself is enough to read the novels after Boba Fett’s Bookbut what makes them so significant is the fact that these novels chronicle how Vanth got his hands on Boba Fett’s iconic armor, filling a gap that many more casual viewers have.

Does Chris Jericho have the best wrestling books of all time? https://zoobooksales.com/does-chris-jericho-have-the-best-wrestling-books-of-all-time/ Thu, 13 Jan 2022 02:00:00 +0000 https://zoobooksales.com/does-chris-jericho-have-the-best-wrestling-books-of-all-time/

The history of wrestling books has seen the biggest names choose to tell their story in the most profound way. Wrestlers have proven to be multi-faceted with many names writing great books after their stints in WWE and other promotions. The stories vary between books that impressed wrestling fans and those that translated beyond the public to win over readers without association with wrestling.

Chris Jericho deserves credit for being a big name for proving that wrestlers could write great books. The various books written by Jericho all tell of his career in radically different ways. Few wrestlers have matched his success in beloved books that truly provide insight into the business. Jericho changed the game and has possibly the best book series ever written by a wrestler.

THE SPORTSTER VIDEO OF THE DAY

They give enough time for each stage of his career

All five of Chris Jericho’s books feature him each giving plenty of time each time in his career without rushing it. Bryan Danielson has revealed he regrets writing his book with WWE because he rushed his story and left a lot on the table. Jericho’s first book was about his early years training in Canada, traveling the world and signing with WCW.

RELATED: 10 Facts You Learn About Chris Jericho From His Books

A Lion’s Tale: Around the World in Spandex quit before joining WWE and is often called the best of his streak. The attention to detail in the stories that precede the “making” has inspired many wrestlers and helped wrestling fans learn more about the company. Undisputed: How to become the world champion in 1,372 easy steps was the next book to look at life in WWE.

Chris Jericho WCW

Jericho knew the WWE era deserved its own book and showed how hard it was to fit in before getting over it. Future books like No is a four letter word, the best in the world: what I have no idea, and his recent The Complete Jericho List each tackled different versions of the narrative than his first two. Each book felt different from the next while keeping the same theme that won over Jericho fans.

They contain fascinating stories

The stories shared in the wrestling books tend to be the most interesting part since fans have memories of the on-screen moments. Chris Jericho has shared plenty of juicy details about what made some chapters of his career more memorable than others. The time he got robbed in Mexico at gunpoint while riding in a car with the wrong person showed just how unpredictable life can be for an uphill wrestler.

WCW’s backstage mayhem was referenced in his first book, from Goldberg refusing to fight him to Hulk Hogan suggesting he go to WWE when his contract expired. Jericho also shared details about Triple H being rude to him and The Undertaker chewing him out for cutting out a rude promo in the first few months, showing how he struggled to find friends.

Chris Jericho Undisputed Champion

Even the interactions with Vince McMahon are on another level than the other great books written by Mick Foley, Steve Austin and Shawn Michaels. Jericho had the perspective of someone who saw Vince as a father figure but also as someone who challenged him. The honest stories you get from the Jericho books are enough to keep any diehard wrestling fan entertained for hours.

Jericho books are better than others

Only a handful of wrestling books would have realistic arguments to challenge Chris Jericho’s series. Mick Foley is the biggest name to ever come because of his early books which were smash hits. The wrestling world was proud of Foley for opening the door for aspiring wrestlers to secure book deals from popular publishing houses. However, Foley’s later works fell more than Jericho’s to even things out.

Jon Moxley’s recent book is receiving rave reviews and discussions for being an all-time great wrestling read. It’s too early to tell if this one will stand up to the way Jericho’s first two books are beloved all these years later. Moxley may also retire from writing after a book since he has transcribed his career up to the current point.

Books by Mick Foley

Other wrestlers like Bryan Danielson, William Regal, Roddy Piper and a few others have released books to win the love of the public. Unfortunately, none of them were successful enough to take an instant interest in their followings. Jericho chronicled his entire career through a few books and had additional content to share other parts of his life in unique ways. No other wrestler has had as much consistent success as Jericho in the world of the book.

From journalist to novelist: Littleton journalist publishes his first book https://zoobooksales.com/from-journalist-to-novelist-littleton-journalist-publishes-his-first-book/ Tue, 30 Nov 2021 19:04:00 +0000 https://zoobooksales.com/from-journalist-to-novelist-littleton-journalist-publishes-his-first-book/

Chancy J. Gatlin-Anderson
Special for Colorado community media

Tabatha Deans Stewart is the former community editor of Elbert County News, a sister publication of that newspaper. And now the Littleton resident is a published novelist.

Stewart’s first book, “The Enchanted Scribe: Book One – The Gate and the Girl,” was released on November 5 through Connecticut-based Strategic Book Publishing & Rights Co. It is the result of almost a decade of work.

This is Samantha Biggers, a 13-year-old girl who with the stroke of a pen can change the direction of the future. But there are two big issues with Samantha’s incredible powers.

First, as the book says, she has no idea that she owns them. Daughter of drug addicts, Sam is the laughing stock of her small community. Her days are filled with abuse and ridicule from the teachers and students at her high school. She spends her days writing stories, wishing to be carried away, and also dreaming of being someone else.

The second problem is more dangerous. An ancient “Eraser” is sent to kill Samantha before she realizes her powers exist.

Suddenly, Sam finds herself fighting for her life and that of the world, as she struggles to harness her emerging powers and stop the Eraser from taking control of the Universal Portal. If that happens, it will allow all kinds of evil to enter this world.

In an interview, Stewart shared his enthusiasm for publishing his first novel, his writing processes and tips for new writers.

“Everyone is a writer, whether you write for fun, for some kind of fulfillment, and whether you make money or not,” she said. “There is a misconception that you have to be Dean Koontz or JK Rowling to be a writer. As long as you put it on paper, you are a writer.

How does it feel to have published your first book?

It’s incredible ! I wrote my first book when I was 13, but I didn’t really publish my first book until 53. This moment has been brewing for 40 years and it’s great to finally be able to publish a book.

How long have you been working on this book?

I first wrote it about 10 years ago and recently revisited it. Things were very different 10 years ago. I got tired of dealing with rejection letters and the submission system. The system is much better now. You can get quick answers. Back then, you had to send physical letters and wait for a response, which could take up to two months. Now, with advancements in technology, things are done much faster.

What inspired you to write this book?

Growing up, I got lost in the books. I had a very good friend who didn’t like to read, however. She really has trouble reading. I wanted her to have a book to read that she really liked. She was not a very strong reader at the time and now her son has autism. I want something for kids and teens to read that is accessible and easy. I want to write a book that the average reader can read and something for people who are not avid readers.

When do you think someone can call themselves a writer?

From the moment they put something on the page. I believe everyone is a writer. Anyone who enjoys creating and formulating ideas. As long as these thoughts are put on paper, a person can be called a writer.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to write their first book?

Just get the words out. Put them on the page by writing the most exciting scenes first. When you focus on what you can’t wait to write about, the rest falls into place. Plus, never completely remove large text spaces! Put it in a separate folder. You can spend years rewriting your story and you will never be done. In general, just have fun with it.

What are the easiest and most difficult parts of your writing process?

The easiest way is to write the exciting scenes that I love. The hardest part is remembering the nuance of the story, such as the days of the week and the time of year. Sometimes I put on something in late fall and then have a scene where a character runs through a field of sunflowers, later realizing that fall is not sunflower season. I also don’t like endless editing. Every time the editor makes a change, I have to go back and reread it.

Are there any therapeutic benefits of modeling a character after someone you know?

Some of my characters are loosely based on people I know or have met throughout my life. One of the main characters, the protagonist’s assistant, is based on a woman who I became friends with years ago and who has since passed away. Sometimes when I meet new people I like to ask, “If I had to give a character your name, what would their name be?” “

What are your future writing projects?

I will write the second book in this series. I would also like to finish the other three half-written manuscripts lying around.

Deon Meyer’s Benny Griessel novels are being adapted for the cinema.

The award-winning author has just published the latest novel in the book series titled, The Dark Flood. The books center on Benny Griessel, a Detective Inspector from Cape Town who investigates crimes and fights his own personal demons.

In an interview with News24 Books, the 63-year-old revealed that a British company opted for the entire literary series.

Deon’s work is no stranger to screen adaptations. The adaptation of his novel Trackers – a co-production between M-Net and Cinemax – broke audience records and became the most popular show on M-Net in 2019. It continued to make its international debut on Cinemax in June 2020.

Other series include The cap, an adaptation of the book Death before you die broadcast in 2016 on Universal TV and Orion released on kykNET in 2006.

Deon added that they were busy adapting three books, two for television, one for a movie. He said that while the process is fun, it also takes a long time “because it keeps me from writing the next novel.”

“But we’re living in a new golden age of television, with streaming platforms and so on, so you have to take the opportunity while it’s there.”
